Результаты исследования опубликованы в журнале Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica. В ходе исследования были проанализированы данные более 26 000 человек в возрасте от 16 до 46 лет. Учеными была выведена закономерность между их школьными оценками и попытками самоубийства во взрослой жизни. Как рассказала один из авторов изыскания доктор Альма Сорберг Валлин,
«Нам удалось обнаружить, что чем ниже уровень успеваемости в школе, тем выше риск совершения попытки самоубийства. Причем эта зависимость никак не связана с полом людей. Такие факторы, как социальное положение, психические заболевания родителей, не имели существенного влияния, а вот зависимость между плохой успеваемостью и попутками самоубийства прослеживалась четко».
На данный момент неясно, с чем это связано, но, согласно одной из гипотез, плохая успеваемость приводит к ограниченным возможностям во взрослой жизни, и есть вероятность, что плохие оценки указывают на какие-то другие личностные проблемы. В любом случае ученые будут продолжать изучать это исследование с целью выявления факторов, связывающих успеваемость и попытки суицида.
